City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi, a cornerstone of New Zealand’s contemporary art scene, came to us with a clever challenge: create a striking, sellable notebook to represent the gallery while it’s closed for renovations. They needed something elegant yet cost-effective, reflecting their bold visual brand, even without printed interior pages.

We collaborated with their team to bring the 'Art This Way' notebook to life. Initially considering white screenprinting, we suggested a sleek, lower-cost solution: black-on-black digital printing. By digitally printing black toner onto premium 320gsm Popset Black stock, we created a high-impact, light-catching effect that highlights the brand without shouting. Subtle, but powerful.

Inside, we kept the quality high—even though the pages were unprinted—by using Mohawk Superfine Eggshell White 118gsm, an FSC certified stock known for its beautiful texture and refined feel.

The final product was saddle-stitched, compact (130x210mm), and clean. And thanks to our Konica Minolta AccurioPress C4070 with real-time quality control, every notebook came out consistently sharp and polished.
