When Te Taura Whiri the Māori Language Commission needed thousands of compact, high-impact guides ready for the fast-approaching Te Matatini Festival, they turned to us. As the Crown entity leading the revitalisation of te reo Māori, they were preparing a suite of language tools to help New Zealanders confidently use everyday phrases, this one focused on ordering a kawhe. Designed to slip into a pocket or wallet, these compact guides were designed to be genuinely useful, something people could actually keep and use in daily life.

Small format, big impact

We printed over 2,000 of these pocket-sized guides on 150gsm Silk Matt, durable but light, with a smooth satin finish that made the vivid CMYK colours pop. Trimmed and concertina folded down to just 52.5 x 90mm (smaller than a business card), the final format nailed both portability and usability. The Konica Minolta AccurioPress delivered crisp detail and perfect fold alignment, key when you’re packing a full language cheat sheet into such a small footprint.

This wasn’t just a one-off. We’ve reprinted this guide multiple times since, and it keeps showing up around the city, proof of its staying power. Folding at this scale isn’t always straightforward, but we got it right, on time, and without cutting corners.
